This is a van my daughter owned in the 90's while she was a vender on a Gratefull Dead tour. I did a lot to an A-Team van to get it where it is. Here's the short list:
Modifications:
Starting kit: AMT A-Team Van
Body:
Side windows cut out and molding made from plastic strips.. Molded sliding side door modified to swing open doors. The molded door handles indents were filled and new indents/handles were cut from a donor body and patched in. Cast side door hinges. Sunroof filled with sheet plastic. Extended side trim with triangular strips. The molded in rear doors were cut out and the doors from a Revell Chevy Van were adapted. The hinges are made from turned down plastic tube with pins made from straight pins that fit the tube ID snugly. Arms for side mirrors made from Alum. Tube. Antenna made from Alum tube and an Insect Pin. Door Locks are PE.
Interior:
Console and dashboard reformed to ’85 units with plastic and body putty. The dash air vents are PE pieces. Steering wheel center made from styrene. The A-Team seats were revised to look like stock GMC van seats. The passenger seat had half round strips added to replicate the stock material. The drivers seat got a printout representing the seat covers. The interior side panels were created using V Grove, half round and flat strips. The bean bag chair was hand stitched from glove leather and filled with plastic beads. The ceiling is printed paper simulating the tapestry in the 1:1.
Mattress is a piece of thin plywood and covered with a paper leopard skin cover.
Tennis balls are beads covered with embossing powder .
Milk crate made of plastic shapes and PE mesh
CD cases are .015" clear plastic with decals of music CD's.
Pillows are hand sewn pieces of felt stuffed with foam.
Dog stick is a real small stick.
Chassis:
The suspension was raised .1” in the rear and .2” front to match the stance of the 1:1 A second exhaust pipe was cut from a spare and added after the rear muffler to simulate the correct GMC exhaust system.
Tires: "a 1 Ton truck tire" from Ma's Resin.
8-lug Rims are resin castings by Ryan Silva.
Front Shocks made from aluminum tube and rod with ends from kit shocks.
Front hubcaps were made from round styrene disks and decals,
The trailer hitch was made from scrap plastic.
and some photos!
